Advice for searching in courses

You can search for courses using the links in the quick search, using free text search or by combing different search criteria in the precision search. If you cannot find the course you are looking for, look in the university study guides. The database is still under construction.

  • Are you looking for courses starting at a specific period of time? Use the quick search page and select the link that has your preferred semester on it. You can also do a precision search by selecting the start period of your preference. If needed, you can also add other search criteria.
  • Do you want to know what kinds of online courses your own university has produced? Precision search: Select you own university in the producer university menu and click search. You can also select more than one university. The course description will tell you whether the course has been produced in co-operation with other universities
  • Do you only want to search for courses that you have the right to enroll in? Precision search: Select your own university in the menu Universities accepting the course and click search. You can also select more than one university. The university accepting the course is often the same as the producer university, because usually students in the member universities of the academic discipline networks have the right to enrol in the courses.
  • Are you looking for courses in a specific discipline? Precision search: by discipline You can only select one discipline: use the one that is closest to what you are looking for. Please note the option: multidisciplinary studies. If you select all disciplines, you will get a list of all current courses in the Course database (courses for which enrolment is now open).
  • Are you looking for courses that can be completed at a distance? Precision search: Select the alternative Fully online or distance learning course among the Study method alternatives. The courses listed may include both online courses and reading courses, which do not require students to be present at the university. You can also select the alternative Mainly online or distance learning course. Most of the requirements for these courses can be completed over the Internet or by independent assignments, but the requirements also include some classroom work. Thus, you need to visit the university a few times to complete these courses.
  • What about courses produced by foreign universities? In principle, foreign universities can offer courses to Finnish students through this service. There are not many courses available yet, however. You can look for these courses in the precision search by selecting the search criterion Foreign university in the Producing university menu. When taking courses provided by a foreign university, you need to agree on course equivalencies, credit transfer principles, enrollment rights and degree requirement fulfilment with your home university.
