The FVU is a partnership of all 21 Finnish universities. Together, the universities provide services that help students to find more flexible ways to study, and university staff to make the best use of new educational technologies. New technologies are also used to promote nation-wide networking among subject fields and other points of common interest.
The ideas and experience generated by the FVU will be instrumental in the development of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). The two prerequisites of the EHEA, the two-tier degree structure and the ECTS-based system, were adopted by the FVU member universities as of August 1st, 2005. To gain experience and to meet the other prerequisites of the EHEA, the FVU is involved in several EU eLearning projects, and is open for new partnerships in European projects.
